  1. Locate your access code*.

Print books: If the top right corner of a book’s front cover says, “Downloadable Resources” or “Online Assessments,” this book will have an access code and redemption instructions inside the front cover of the book. 

ebooks: Follow the steps below.

  1. Redeem your ebook. (See: How do I view my ebook?) 
  2. Open the VitalSource Bookshelf online.
  3. Find your title and hover over it to select Open Book.
  4. Click the “access code information” prompt in upper right corner.
  5. Follow the instructions to reveal your access code and copy it to your clipboard.

Instructors: Locate the access code provided to you by your AHIMA Sales Representative or fill out this form to request a code.

  1. Open the book URL or visit my.ahima.org/learningcenter.
  2. Log in or create an AHIMA account.
  3. Select “Add Code” and enter the book’s access code. Your book’s title will now display as one of your Current Classes.
  4. Select your book’s title to open the resources (opens automatically in a new tab).
  5. Select “Get Started” or “Launch Unit” to view or download the book’s resources as needed, without limit. Book resources will remain on your myAHIMA account for the life of the book’s edition (one year after the next edition publishes).

*Print books may be bundled with additional products and registration codes. These bundles will have a book and an access code card shrink-wrapped together. Redemption instructions are available for all bundles at ahima.org/mybundle.

Instructor materials are provided gratis to verified adopting instructors employed at colleges and universities with health information or informatics, medical coding, nursing, or affiliated programs. Please review AHIMA’s permission guidelines for additional details and options.

You will need to determine the type of code you are attempting to use. If the code does not work after following redemption instructions in step 1, move to step 2.

    1. Access codes for book resources (see How do I access book resources?) is a single-use code that provides you access to the book’s resources. You may redeem access to your book’s resources at my.ahima.org/ams/navigation/my-learning-center/ as needed through one year after the publication of the next edition. 
    2. Codes that come with book bundles are coupon codes that allow you to purchase the product associated with the bundle you purchased for $0 in the AHIMA store. Bundled products may include AHIMA VLab®, AHIMA student membership, or an AHIMA certification exam. Redemption instructions are available for all bundles at ahima.org/mybundle. When it is time to enter your code, be sure to enter it exactly as it appears without extra spaces. 
  2. If the code does not work after following redemption instructions above, please email online.education@AHIMA.org with the following information.
    • Your first and last name and email address
    • The title of the book you are attempting to access resources for
    • Your access code (see How do I access book resources?)

AHIMA Press ebooks are accessed, viewed, and downloaded from our partner, VitalSource, by logging on to their website.

Please note that most of our ebooks have a 365-day license. You must download the ebook before this period ends to continue viewing after expiration. For more information on how to view your book offline, please refer to VitalSource. AHIMA Press does not allow printing of ebooks. To register your VitalSource redemption code, follow these instructions.

Access codes for book resources (see How do I access book resources?) do not expire. This is a single-use code that provides you access to the book’s resources. You may redeem access to your book’s resources at my.ahima.org/learningcenter as needed through one year after the publication of the next edition.

Codes that come with book bundles* are coupon codes that do not expire. These coupon codes allow you to purchase the product associated with the bundle you purchased for $0 in the AHIMA store. Products may include VLab®, AHIMA student membership, or an AHIMA certification exam.

The code that comes with a book bundled* with an AHIMA certification exam is a single-use coupon code that does not expire; it does not guarantee qualification for or entry to an AHIMA certification exam. The coupon code allows you to purchase the exam associated with the bundle you purchased for $0 in the AHIMA store. Please refer to Certifications information for exams.

Student or individual users may also have resources available to them. Not all books have these resources. Books that have student or individual user resources will have a “Downloadable Resources” or “Online Assessments” tag on the top right corner of the book’s front cover and will include an access code (see How do I access book resources). Student or individual user resources may include but are not limited to workbooks and practice quizzes.

Instructor resources including answer keys, instructor manuals, and slide decks, are available to approved educators. Instructors may view student resource modules in addition to instructor modules. Complete the Review & Desk Copy Request form. Please allow up to five business days for processing.

AHIMA Press Exam Preparation books and ebooks have online practice exams available through the book’s resource website (review How do I access book resources?). 

  1. Open the book’s resources through my.ahima.org/learningcenter.
  2. Select a quiz using one of two methods.
    1. Select a practice item from the main page.
    2. Select Get Started/Continue or Launch Unit from the main page to open all of the book’s resources.
      1. Expand the navigation sidebar (click the hamburger menu) at the top left of the screen.
  3. Click Go to Quiz to open the quiz in a new tab.
  4. Click Start Quiz to begin the quiz and start the timer.
    1. The time limit and remaining time for the quiz is displayed on the top ribbon.
    2. Read each question carefully before selecting an answer. 
  5. Click Submit Quiz when finished.
    1. Before you submit the quiz, you will have the opportunity to return to questions that you may have missed or have not yet answered.
    2. You can submit your quiz responses at any time. 
  6. The results of your quiz will open.
    1. Correct answers are indicated with a checkmark. Incorrect answers are indicated with an “x” and you will see an arrow pointing to the correct answer. 
    2. Expand the feedback to review the rationale for the answer. 
    3. Do not click away from this page until you print or save your results.
  7. Save your results: This is your digital documentation for your attempt.
    1. Highlight the whole page (all results information) using one of the following methods.
      1. Click and drag your mouse from the first word on the page and, without unclicking, drag to the bottom of the page ending after the Attempt Score % to highlight the whole page. 
      2. Click and drag your mouse to highlight the first word on the page, unclick, scroll to the bottom of the page, hold down the SHIFT key and click after the Attempt Score % to highlight the whole page. 
    2. Save the highlighted information with one of the following methods.
      1. Option 1: Print to PDF. Right click inside the highlighted text and select Print from the dropdown menu. Set the destination to PDF. Save the PDF to your preferred location.
      2. Option 2: Print as a hard copy. Right click inside the highlighted text and select Print from the dropdown menu. Set the destination to your preferred printer.
  8. Click Done at the bottom of the page. You will not be able to go back to the results page once you select Done. A new page will open that shows the number of attempts you've made on this quiz
How to review previous attempts at quizzes.
  1. Start a new attempt for the quiz you wish to review.
  2. Click Submit Quiz without answering any questions.
  3. On the next page you will be able to see all of the attempts you’ve made on this quiz. Click on the one  you need to save.
  4. Follow Step 7: Save your results above.

Returns of eligible, undamaged purchases are accepted within 30 days of the invoice date. To return a book purchased from the AHIMA webstore, follow these instructions:

  1. Enclose a packing slip with the return.
  2. All components included with the purchase must be included with the return.
  3. To avoid damage during return shipping, please ensure the books are properly packed to withstand shipping stresses. Please package securely and include additional packing materials as needed.
  4. It is recommended that you use a delivery method that offers tracking services.

Products that are not eligible for return under any circumstance include ebooks, adaptive learning access codes, custom products, and books with access codes revealed (scratch-off coating removed).

Your request may be denied due to any of the following:

  • The request to return product(s) was not received within 30 days of the invoice date.
  • A packing slip was not enclosed with the return.
  • The returned product(s) is discontinued or out of print and returns are not being accepted.
  • The returned book(s) was damaged (includes but is not limited to highlighting or other marks; bent, cut, or torn covers or pages; other signs of use or damage such that the item cannot be considered in “new” condition), in non-saleable condition, and cannot be returned to inventory. No refund or credit will be given, and the damaged book will not be sent back to you.

Returns of eligible, undamaged purchases are accepted only with a return merchandise authorization (RMA). Authorization must be requested via email at purchase@ahima.org.

All components included with the purchase must be included with the return. To avoid damage during return shipping, please ensure the books are properly packed to withstand shipping stresses. Please package securely and include additional packing materials as needed.

The return must be received within 30 days of RMA approval. Please note:

  • The RMA return request may not exceed the same product quantity of the qualifying order. However, multiple RMAs may be returned in a single package.
  • All RMA returns must include the RMA packing list.
  • If an order qualifies for a volume discount-based minimum order quantity, any returns that cause the new order quantity to fall below the qualifying quantity will result in the order being recalculated at the item’s full price. If the value of the recalculated order is below the paid original order value, the difference will be refunded. If the recalculated order balance exceeds the original paid order value, the customer will be charged the order balance unpaid.
  • Resellers requesting an RMA will receive the RMA procedures, shipping instructions, and printable RMA packing list to enclose with their returns.

Under no circumstances will AHIMA accept a return for a product more than 90 days after its new edition publishes or it is declared out of print/end-of-life. Other products that are not eligible for return include:

  • ebooks
  • Adaptive Learning access codes
  • Custom products
  • Books with access codes revealed (scratch-off coating removed)
  • Out-of-print or discontinued products
  • Products deemed ineligible or damaged (includes but is not limited to highlighting or other marks; bent, cut, or torn covers or pages; other signs of use or damage such that the item cannot be considered in “new” condition), in non-saleable condition, and cannot be returned to inventory. No refund will be provided, and the books will not be returned to the customer.

A return merchandise authorization may be denied due to any of the following:

  • A packing slip was not enclosed with the return.
  • A new edition of the returned product(s) has been available for 90 days and returns are no longer being accepted.
  • The returned product(s) is out of print and returns are not being accepted.
  • The returned book(s) was damaged and cannot be returned to inventory. No refund will be provided.
  • The RMA return exceeded the same product quantity of the qualifying order.
